ALASKA BECOMES 49TH STATE OF THE UNION - JANUARY 3, 1959
During this seven-day cruise, John H. Venables, will present his Alaska History program that was given in Washington D. C., October 19, 2009, at the Library of Congress, James Madison Building, Mary Pickford Theater.
John V. is dressed in period attire as U. S. Secretary of State William Henry Seward (1867), Judge James Wickersham (1939) and Alaska Delegate to the U. S. Congress E. L. "Bob" Bartlett (1958) telling stories that led to Alaska becoming the 49th State of the Union.
Other programs to may be added. Look forward to John Muir, "My Seven Trips to Alaska"; Colonel Thomas C. Woodbury, first Commanding Officer of Fort William Henry Seward, Haines, Alaska "The Commander Returns"; Nils Peter Adamson, first Lighthouse Keeper at Eldred Rock, "What Happened to the Clara Nevada"; and Charley Anway, "The Alaska Strawberry King". Mark Twain might be on board also.
